This is the first in a series of articles which will compare the SPLeaf to other forms of smoking and smoking paraphernalia. In this article, we will cover the main stand-alone benefits of the Silver Palm Leaf, from its design features to the materials used to build it. NB: we only condone the use of the Silver Palm Leaf for the smoking of weed, marijuana, hash or any other substance where it is legal to do so. The silver palm leaf can be used with a number of inputs but most commonly with tobacco or weed.
Firstly, the credit card pipe design is super compact which makes it extremely portable and very discreet. If you’ve ever wondered why jeans have that small pocket, it’s (probably) because it perfectly fits a single Silver Palm Leaf pipe.
Secondly, it is a precision-engineered piece of smoking paraphernalia which is the focus of this article. There are three main design features of the silver palm leaf weed and tobacco pipe which make it so iconic: the long smoke channel, the detachable backplate, and the stainless steel construction.
Long Channel to cool and filter the smoke
The channel is where the genius of the credit card pipe really lies. The patented and iconic design (so iconic the Silver Palm Leaf is in the Victoria & Albert Design Museum Permanent Collection) is a 32cm channel through which the smoke flows before you breathe it in. This has a similar effect to the water in a bong in that it cools the smoke on the metal, leading to a smoother, cooler toke. It also filters the smoke by condensing the major pollutants such as tar in the channel and onto the removable backplate.
Detacheable backplate for easy cleaning
The backplate is attached to the pipe with 4 strong and durable hand-glued magnets which are designed to last. This keeps it secure in general use or when being dropped (it happens!) but also allows it to be detached when required for cleaning. As the pipe is very effective at filtering out toxins from weed and tobacco e.g. tar and this means that, every now and then, the pipe will require cleaning. This is made much easier by having a detachable backplate. The backplate can also be used to cut other substances and even to draw a straight line!
Highest quality stainless steel
The silver palm leaf is constructed using the highest-quality stainless steel. Each pipe is moulded from one solid piece of steel which makes it virtually indestructible. The steel has three main benefits: it is robust, inert and – of course – water proof. The robustness means that it can be dropped without fear of breaking. The fact that it is inert means that you don’t have to worry about the pipe impacting on flavour or burning during the course of use. Finally, the water proofing is super important for camping and accidental washing machine incidents, the Silver Palm Leaf can be dried off and put straight to use where papers and filters would crumble.
